Council Activities

Business meetings are held at 7:30PM (usually with mass at 6:30pm and dinner at 7:00pm) on the 2nd Monday of the month and open meetings (usually) on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

Charity

Charity is the first principle of the Order.  Knights are followers of Christ and men of faith.  As St. James reminds us. "faith without works is dead."  We are committed to charity, easing the plight of those less fortunate.

St Louis Council has various fundraising activities throughout the year.

  • Fall activity - Tootsie Roll Drive: funds raised are donated to organizations assisting mentally challenged individuals
  • Assist gathering and transporting school supplies to sister parishes in Western Maryland
  • Winter activities - staff a concession stand at MCI Center to fund the majority of our charitable donations
  • Spring activity - Mulch Sale
  • Summer activity - assist with the St. Louis Picnic set-up, run Big Six Wheel and picnic take down

Donations last fraternal year were over $8,000.00 and were given to: Howard Co. Special Olympics,  VIVA House(a soup kitchen in Baltimore), St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home, Therapeutic & Recreational Riding Center, Howard and Carrol County Pregnancy, Sarah's House, Carol Jean Cancer Foundation and several other charities.

Other Charitable Activities:

  • Assist with projects in Western Maryland parish
  • Hold bi-annual Blood Drives
  • Seminarian financial support
  • New Church Fund

Unity

Unity is the second principle of the Knights of Columbus.  In Unity there is strength.  We use that strength to speak out for religiously grounded moral values in a culture that has forsaken them.

  • Mass before the Monthly Business Meeting
  • Right to Life Rosary Service in October
  • K of C Recruitment weekends - Spring & Fall
  • Memorial Mass for fallen brothers in November
  • March for Life Walk in Washington DC each January
  • Various functions to explore and expand our faith through talks, activities and days of recollection

Fraternity

Fraternity is the third principle of the Order.  In 19th century America, life insurance was beyond the reach of many poor Catholics, and social services did not exist.  Through the Knights of Columbus men were able to band together as brothers to help one another in times of distress, sickness and death.

  • K of C Life Insurance
  • Rosary Service at a brother Knight’s funeral
  • Prayer and support for sick brother Knights and families
  • Dinner before the Monthly Business Meeting
  • Frederick Keys Ballgame
  • Monthly Golf Outings
  • Annual Picnic
  • Christmas Party
  • Dinner with wives
  • Annual Ice Cream Social

Patriotism

Patriotism is the principle of the Fourth Degree.  One of the reasons the Order was founded was to emphasize that Catholics are proud citizens of their countries.  Today Fourth Degree Knights in full regalia, the visible arm of the Order, serve to witness to the values of devotion to God and country, the bedrock of patriotism.

Many Sir Knights from our council belong to and are active in 4th degree assemblies in the area.

Some of the Fourth Degree activities include:

o       911 Day of Remembrance, One Nation Under God at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

o       Installation honor guard for council installations

o       Columbus Day Parade

o       Blue Mass for Fire-fighters, Police Officers and EMTs

o       Flag Day Pause for the Pledge

o       Veterans’ Day Hospital Visits

o       Memorial Day Mass

o       Support for Eucharistic Congress and Supreme Convention
